Summary Silicon has a wide range of effects in plant nutrient homeostasis. One of these effects is the Si derived formation of Casparian bands and the reduced radial oxygen loss. The genechip provided evidence for the impact of Si in nutrient homeostasis, especially for iron.; We used GeneChips to detail the genes involved in the Si-dependent plant reaction. Furthermore genes for CB development were identified.
Overall Design Oryza sativa roots were germinated for 7d and harvested at 28 days after transfer in nutrient solution with the two different Si conditions with 30 mgL-1 SiOH4 (Plus_Si) in nutrient solution. As a control, plants were cultivated in nutrient solution and 3 mgL-1 Si (Minus_Si). Four biological replicates consisting of pools of five roots were used for RNA extraction and hybridization on Affymetrix GeneChips. The Affymetrix GeneChip had two technical repetitions.
